Hi,
I decided to make blog with the artists I visited and liked from AGAST (Annual Gowanus Open Studio Tour) because it seems easiest.
From the websites posted on the AGAST website I narrowed about 120 artists down to about 25 and chose 8 to present and provide a few more to consider.
There was a lot of great work and also a lot of artists who are starting out and might not be quite there yet but definitely people to keep an eye on.

More Artists
I had been interested in speaking with:
Kit Warren (http://kitwarren.com) but she was not in her studio
Linda Adato (http://www.lindaadato.com) but I ran out of time
Joelle Shallon (http://www.joelleshallon.com) but I could not find her studio
I liked the work of:
Beth Shipley (http://www.bethshipley.com) but not 100% sold
Ann Leone (http://www.anneleone.com) but her minimum prices were too high
Robert Szot (http://www.robertszot.com) but not 100% sold
Denise Amses (http://deniseamses.com)
but not 100% sold and her prints were larger and all needed to be framed.
There were other artists who I had checked out but in person the work was underwhelming or not what the website had represented it to be. That list I can also provide.

Sara Jones
Sara Jones is a painter who, in her last series, incorporated colored strings into the paintings. Her new series deals with geometric shapes in domestic settings or exterior plains. Her work fits within the price range and she offers a number of canvas sizes.
I did not approach her about contributing because I wanted to make up my mind but in hindsight she was one of the strongest artists and her new series incorporating geometric shapes is a great direction. If contacted I believe she would be receptive.

Cecilia Schmidt

Cecilia Schmidt is a photographer who captured video stills of birds in migration. In person they struck me much more than online because their digital/video aesthetic comes through stronger. Some of her works are within the price range and what I saw was framed.
Cecilia Schmidt was receptive but required more information.

Philip Simmons

Philip Simmons works with watercolor on paper and also makes resin and metal sculptures that can be mounted on the wall or sit on a table. He is beginning a new series of wood and resin wall mounted sculptures of clouds and mountains. His new series struck me and I took a photo since they are not yet online. It is sitting on the floor instead of hung up and looks better in person. His prices are on the outside spectrum of the budget but are negotiable.
Philip Simmons was very receptive.
LJ Lindhurst

LJ Lindhurst is a prolific painter with a vast assortment of paintings and series available well within the price range. I was drawn towards the 'Bunnies' paintings and took a few photos. There are, as I mentioned, a lot of different series available.
LJ Lindhurst was very receptive.

Rachel Pollak
Rachel Pollak is a multi-media artist who had a number of works on paper. Some framed, some not but well within the price range. Her works on paper can be seen in the Delectable Mountains tab under work.
Rachel Pollak was receptive but required more information.
